Storm in Shogun Territory – BTS

We are just back from shooting the new Shogun press campaign for Mitsubishi…and not in an obvious location for a 4×4 shoot.
Last year, we shot the campaign up in the wilds of the Isle of Skye and this year, the client wanted to take the theme of ‘Welcome to Shogun Territory’ further.
So, the brief was to find an epic location with wild seas, coastal rocks and a lighthouse to give that remote feel.

We initially thought of the coast of Scotland or maybe Brittany in France, either of which would have had the brooding weather feel we required for a shoot in January! However, a year or two back, I was cycling around the Channel Islands with some mates (OK, not that arduous a ride admittedly, but some great watering holes!) and came across the perfect location in Jersey. Obviously, Jersey is more synonymous with golden sandy beaches for summer holidays & high net worth residents, not moody landscapes, so my suggestion was greeted with some skepticism at first, but after a bit of persuasion the agency and client agreed.

So, the production process started – location permits obtained, ferries for the shoot cars and grip vehicle booked, flights, hire cars and hotels etc…sorted – all the usual. We contacted the Jersey Air Traffic Control & local drone ops as I wanted to get my aerial drone in the sky, unfortunately the wild weather we wanted for the stills stopped us flying but hey, you win some, lose some! The help of Frank & James from Film Jersey was invaluable during the shoot, from liaising with the States of Jersey government prior to the shoot on permissions to local residents during the shoot.

Evenings were spent processing out the selects from the days shoot with the odd bit of hoverboard practice – seem to have a few bits missing off it after a few G&T induced minor collisions!
