We’ve had to keep this under wraps for a while but now it’s aired in the ad breaks of our favourite soaps (*cough) we can now reveal the magic behind the new MG3 ad. That little car spinning amongst the streets to a backing track by Elephant 12 is the result of a little photography, a little CGI and a lot of collaboration.
You’ll remember we created images of the new nippy car in a range of customisable decals, well we went a bit further and created some more to add to the montage that is the 30 second ad. We’re not sales people for MG but have to say compared to other small cars on the market, this is a cracker. There’s no sports engine involved but for 9999 it really has changed the way people look at the little city car.
We loved playing around with the customisable features from the Union Jack on the top to the seat covers and interiors and we’re fully expecting the M25 to become a brighter place to be stuck in traffic after this ad.
We can’t take all the credit though, we’d love to but we won’t. The concept, the design work and basically everything else was by Rok Creative & Intro UK. They also sourced the funky track by the Canadian Indie band Elephant 12 – Love Knock on Wood is sure to put those guys on the map now.
The ad just brings together everything we’ve already done, the young, pop, hip vibe that sets this car out from the crowd. Already comments are rolling in and it seems MG has achieved exactly that with even the older generation champing at the bit to get their hands on a Union Jack.
Unlike other nippy cars like these this MG has succeeded in being unisex, usually people view the smaller cars as just for girls but the MG3 has enough about it to make it appeal to both sides.
Already the ad has made its debut in the ad break of Dragonheart on Monday but over the next few weeks you’ll see it in prime time slots during X factor, Corrie and I’m a Celebrity.
It’ll certainly wake you up after a steady stream of Christmas food and sale ads!
If you can’t wait until it airs on your TV, go and see it now here and let us know what you think.
