Anyone that’s complained that our winter hasn’t been white enough needs to go to the top of a hill in the middle of the country on a windy day.
I’m not going to complain too much as I’ve seen what winter’s done to the homes of my friends in the South, and we’d probably prefer snow to rain any day.
Saying that though, we have been enjoying some milder temperatures so I’d settled quite well into this winter that never was. Then I was asked to go hillside, to snap the latest Mitsubishi L200 in rugged mountainous conditions for the Spring press campaign.
It wasn’t just me, there was a team of us from the agency to the clients, and assistants to the car prep team, as the first icy wind blew us away I thought we’d have to cuddle for warmth!
They wanted to show the tough truck doing what it does best, being in tough locations. Now the Mitsubishi might have been tough enough as the pictures definitely show but I almost had some doubts about my own masculinity more than once. It’s freezing in them there hills, and while the Mitsubishi Barbarian L200 handled the wind, rain and snow with ease, we had to wait for the weather to clear to get a good enough pic.
This meant standing out in these tough conditions, hoping for a respite that would capture this beast in action. It wasn’t all doom and gloom though as when we moved to the next location we came across some incredible scenery.
I couldn’t help take a few pics of this little fella running wild in the rugged landscape. No sign of an owner and free to roam anywhere, it was tempting to bring him home.
Shivering, windswept, and ready for a remote pub with a log fire I was glad we’d brought the RV. Mirroring the meth lab from ‘Breaking Bad’, the only chemistry I needed was warmth and a hot cup of tea (with a hot toddy!)
We’ve definitely captured the Mitsubishi in action though and seeing it on the hills and the road, I think it should be my vehicle of choice next time I shoot somewhere remote!
Just to show the kind of weather conditions the team were up against during the shoot – take a look at this short video clip!
Check back here at the beginning of April when the press ads will start running & we will show the finished images.
