Last week we returned from an unusual and pretty demanding location shoot when we took the new Mitsubishi L200 on a Roadtrip from the Cirencester HQ of Mitsubishi UK to the Sahara to shoot a series of press ads.
Normally on a photographic shoot we (client, agency, myself, digi tech, assistant and producer) fly in & out to the locations & the shoot cars arrive by specialist car transporter, but this one was unusual, showcasing the L200’s capabilities by completing the whole trip from the UK to location and back.
We had two L200 shoot cars, support vehicles for the cameras & grip kit and about a dozen crew, varying from country to country.
The whole trip covered around 5,000 miles in approaching three weeks and crossed UK, France, Portugal, Spain & then by Maroc Express ferry to Tangiers, down through Marrakesh and out into the Sahara…then all the way back!
Temperatures soared as we reached the desert, prompting the dreaded black screen on the iphones warning you to cool it down! Fortunately the Sat phones we also take to more remote locations like that aren’t quite so temperamental!
The crew dressed for all eventualities – including a Shemagh (similar to a bandana but bigger & used to protect the head from sandstorms & wind), and some rather natty headwear!
We met some great characters on the trip – from the local fixers to the kids & traders plying their wares & insisting on performing a snake charming demo!
The final press ad campaign images are in work now, so check back very soon!
In the meantime, take a look at the Behind-The-Scenes iphone snaps here…
