Most of this weekend was spent at Donington Historic Festival – a relatively new date on the historic racing calendar. I was asked to take part in the ‘Supercars Through the Decades’ demonstration representing the ’90’s with my 1996 Honda NSX. Other cars taking part were BMW i8, Jenson Button’s ex McLaren, GT40, Ferrari, Porsche GT3 to name a few, and we made the most of the opportunity to get on track in the lunchtime racing break.
Here is a just for fun in-car GoPro clip of a lap of Donington circuit in the Honda NSX…
The cars at this years 5th Donington Historic Festival were incredibly diverse & represent some of the best examples of their various genres in three days of racing. Saturday & Sundays line up included Formula Juniors from the late 1950’s/early ’60’s, F2 & Grand Prix cars, sports and touring cars, with Mondays racing featuring HSCC Group A & Supertouring, pre-1966 Jaguars, pre-war (1920’s & 1930’s) Sports cars and pre 1960’s sportscars.
Drivers who are well known on the historic racing circuit took part – for example John Cleland in a 97 Vauxhall Vectra in the Super Touring car trophy, a few celebs – Drew Pritchard of Salvage Hunters TV show fame was driving a 1958 VW Beetle, musician Chris Rea in a Morris Minor and good friend Andrew Tart of ATME driving a 1960 Bond. Another pal, Martin Stretton of Stretton Racing (and co-‘star’ 😉 of last weeks ‘The Gadget Show’!) was demonstrating his driving skills in various cars during the weekend.
